The CJ27ex7.3B, Canon’s first 2/3” portable lens with a class leading 27x optical zoom, expands Canon’s extensive broadcast lens lineup. The lens spans a focal range of 7.3mm to 197mm. With a built-in 2x extender, the lens’ maximum telephoto reach increases to 394mm. The new lens, with superb optical performance, is classified as a UHDxs lens, Canon’s highest image quality rating for broadcast optics.
The CJ27ex7.3B lens is designed to be portable, with the mobility of a conventional ENG (electronic news gathering) lens. Prior to the introduction of this lens, a 27x zoom ratio was typically only available in 2/3” box lenses. The versatility of the CJ27x means it is equally at home in hand-held news and sports applications as it is in broadcast studios. The 7.3mm wide angle helps set the scene for viewers, while the 197mm telephoto end delivers tight shots of the subject.
Integrated with the new lens is Canon’s next-generation drive unit, the e-Xs V. The new drive unit features an angled 20-pin connector and a built-in USB-C connector, giving users a better experience with equipment setup and maintenance and improves operability with an updated display menu.

The CJ27ex7.3B, featuring the latest in Canon’s optical technologies, has a best-in-class magnification i of 27x and a focal length range of 7.3mm to 394mm when the 2x extender is engaged. This focal range accommodates various uses including studio work, sports coverage, and news reporting where limited space makes close-ups difficult. The versatile lens allows camera operators to frame an entire subject and capture close-ups.
The compact and lightweight body combines the durability of conventional ENG lenses with the optical performance required for 4K cameras. As with all Canon ENG lenses, the drive unit is positioned close to the lens body’s optical axis, lessening arm and shoulder fatigue when shooting.
Canon’s optical design technology delivers outstanding optical performance for today’s 2/3-inch 4K cameras. Canon UHDxs lenses provide the superior resolution and tonal gradation demanded of 4K images. In addition, they control aberrations with precision, including color blurring and color fringing. Consistent with all UHDxs lenses, the CJ27 provides high 4K resolution and contrast from the center of its image to the periphery throughout the zoom range.
Fluorite and UD glass have been generously utilized and optimally arranged for better correction of chromatic aberrations. This helps increase image clarity with less color bleeding or coloring around the outlines, achieving superb color reproduction to the edges of the images.
Special coatings and an internal lens barrel designed to prevent reflection, result in clean black reproduction and less ghosting and flaring- sustaining high-tonality images that support High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Wide Color Gamut (WCG).
With an angled 20-pin connector and a built-in USB-C connector, the e-Xs V gives users a better experience with equipment setup and maintenance and improves operability with an updated display menu.
The high-resolution, 16-bit absolute value encoder enables high-precision location detection, making calibration easier when creating virtual content. The 20-Pin connector can be switched to a virtual terminal to output zoom, focus, and iris position information.
The CJ27’s serial connection with a remote control-compatible camera transmits focus, zoom, and iris position information and allows remote control of the camera.
ARIA ( Automatic Restoration of Illumination Attenuation) adjusts illumination so that light is more evenly distributed between the wide and the telephoto ends of the lens. First, the Camera-lens communication at initialization identifies the lens attached. When zooming, the camera’s gain is increased starting at the F-drop/ramping point. Simultaneously, Peripheral Illumination Correction corrects light fall-off from the center of the frame to the periphery. This correction more evenly distributes light throughout the entire image.
