Canon Canada Celebrates Eighth Consecutive Year as One of Canada’s Greenest Employers
Honour highlights the company's ongoing commitment to environmental leadership and fostering a culture of sustainability.
BRAMPTON, Ontario (April 21, 2026) – Canon Canada Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to announce that it has been named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2026. This is the eighth consecutive year that the company received recognition for being one of the country’s leaders in creating a culture of environmental awareness. The award honours companies committed to sustainability and their ability to attract employees and customers through their environmental leadership.
“Canon Canada is proud to foster a culture of environmental responsibility,” says Leena Nagpal, Vice-President, People and Operations, Canon Canada. “We know our actions have an impact, both in the here-and-now and in the years ahead. This recognition speaks not only to our success in introducing internal initiatives that our employees can embrace but also to the meaningful work we do with our external environmental partners .”
Now in its 19th year, Canada’s Greenest Employers competition organized is part of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers initiative, led by Mediacorp Canada Inc. The editors evaluate and select the recipients based on four sets of criteria: unique environmental initiatives and programs developed; success in reducing their environmental footprint; employee involvement in programs and whether they contribute any unique skills; and whether their initiatives have become linked to the employer’s public identity and whether they attract new employees and customers to the organization.
Highlights of Canon Canada’s sustainability initiatives include:
- LEED® Gold for New Construction and Major Renovations 2009 certification for its corporate headquarters, in Brampton, Ontario. Surrounded by expansive, community-accessible green space, the building includes elements that encourage collaboration, foster well-being and promote practices that reduce its carbon footprint.
- State-of-the-art Brampton Headquarters designed to reflect the company’s commitment to sustainability, with features including:
- Energy-efficient lighting throughout the building;
- A rooftop greywater system that saves Canon Canada approximately 20 percent of its annual domestic city water usage each year – about 4.5 million bottles worth of water;
- A sophisticated kitchen digestion system that helps divert and reduce organic waste from landfills;
- Dedicated carpool and bike-parking spots to encourage more efficient and eco-friendly commuting; and
- 13 electric vehicle charging stations and 21 reserved spaces for lower emission vehicles to incentivize employees to practice a more sustainable lifestyle.
- A partnership with Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider. Bullfrog Power’s generators put 100 per cent clean, pollution-free electricity onto the grid to match 50 per cent of the amount of conventional power that Canon Canada uses at its head office. In 2025, Canon Canada displaced approximately 341.0 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions - the equivalent of diverting about 118.3 tonnes of waste from landfill or preventing the emissions from approximately 145,815 litres of gasoline.
- A partnership with Earth Rangers, a kids’ environmental and conservation organization that shares the company’s commitment to environmental education and responsibility in Canadian youth. The company continued its support of Earth Rangers assemblies, which bring environmental awareness – either in-person or virtually – to thousands of elementary school students across the country. Canon Canada sponsored 40 assemblies for the 2025-2026 school year, empowering nearly thousands of students in grades 1 to 6 to act on important environmental issues. The company also continued its support of the Backyard Biologist Mission and Photo Contest. The contest received more than 1,000 entries from kids across the country who got outside and submitted their photos of the natural world. Three grand-prize winners each received a Canon mirrorless camera, a Canon compact photo printer and their photo printed and framed from Canon Frame Lab. The two organizations also co-hosted an interactive event for their respective staff and members to further promote environmental awareness and stewardship.
- The Canon Canada Environmental Studies Scholarship, presented annually to students at York University, the University of British Columbia and Université de Sherbrooke. The scholarship helps the universities provide financial assistance to students pursuing careers committed to sustainability and protecting the environment.
- Environmental Education Day, an annual event held at the Brampton headquarters in collaboration with local school boards to increase environmental literacy among various school groups in the community. New in 2026, Canon Canada hosted its first Employee Environmental Education Day, an interactive event highlighting the company’s year-round partnerships and commitment to tangible sustainability actions.
- Branch Out, a volunteer initiative that gives employees the opportunity to create green spaces and sustainable environments around the communities where they work and live. In 2025, Canon Canada employees volunteered 650 hours at 16 events across the country, restoring more than 2,700 square metres of land and planting 857 trees, shrubs, and perennials, as well as 1,000 food-producing plants.
- A partnership with MicroHabitat Urban Farming, a company that brings urban farming solutions to school and corporations. In 2024, Canon Canada installed its first urban farm at a school in Montreal, with 11 employees from the company’s St. Laurent, Que., office assisting with the planning. Canon Canada expanded this partnership in 2025 by installing an urban farm at its head office. Three dozen employees helped plant the garden; throughout the summer, they took weekly shifts to maintain it, with MicroHabitat donating the harvested vegetables to a food bank.
- The Canon Green Team,a company-wide, cross-departmental committee dedicated to activating, reviewing and enhancing Canon Canada’s environmental initiatives, as well as promoting enviro-consciousness among employees.
- Electronics recycling programs that encourage employees to responsibly recycle their no-longer-needed electronics. In the past 10 years, Canon Canada employees have diverted over 7,500 kilograms of consumer electronics, clothing and textiles from landfills. Dedicated drop-off bins for used batteries, toner cartridges and electronics are set up at multiple locations across the country.
- Participation in multiple electronics stewardship programs across the country, including Circular Materials, Éco Enterprises Québec and Electronics Products Stewardship Canada.
- International ISO 14001 Certification at multiple offices across Canada. The standard certifies Canon Canada has implemented, maintained and constantly enhanced its environment management system, and ensured it meets or exceeds all environmental compliance obligations.
- A Green Procurement Policy that ensures the company procures parts, products and services from vendors who are in line with Canon Canada’s commitment to the environment and sustainability.
