Canon Canada Renews Partnership with Bullfrog Power, Continues to Choose Green Electricity for a Portion of Its Head Office

BRAMPTON, Ontario (January 27, 2025) – Canon Canada Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to announce that it has renewed its partnership with Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider. Through this partnership, Canon Canada will continue to choose green electricity for half of its Brampton head office consumption. This represents another important step on the company’s path toward reducing its carbon footprint and supporting a cleaner future for all Canadians. In 2024, Canon Canada displaced 340.1 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions – the equivalent of diverting 118 tonnes of waste from landfill or preventing the emissions from 145,436 litres of gasoline. It’s the same amount of emissions absorbed by 165 hectares of forest growing for a year.
Through the agreement, Bullfrog Power’s generators put 100 per cent clean, pollution-free electricity onto the grid to match 50 per cent of the amount of conventional power that Canon Canada uses at its head office. Across Canada, Bullfrog’s green electricity comes from a blend of wind, solar and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities.
In addition to choosing green energy with Bullfrog Power, Canon Canada’s sustainability initiatives include:
- A LEED® Gold certified headquarters that includes energy-efficient lighting throughout the building; a rooftop greywater system that saves Canon Canada approximately 20 per cent of its annual domestic city water usage each year; dedicated carpool and bike-parking spots to encourage more efficient and eco-friendly commuting; 13 electric vehicle charging stations and 21 reserved spaces for lower emission vehicles to incentivize employees to practice a more sustainable lifestyle; and an organic waste program that helps divert and reduce organic waste from landfills. Since the program’s inception in 2022, the company has diverted more than 38,000 kilograms of organic waste.
- A partnership with Earth Rangers, a kids’ environmental and conservation organization committed to environmental education and responsibility in Canadian youth. Canon Canada is sponsoring 40 Earth Rangers assemblies during the 2024-2025 school year, bringing environmental awareness – either in-person or virtually – to thousands of elementary school students across the country.
- Branch Out, a volunteer initiative that gives employees the opportunity to create green spaces and sustainable environments around the communities where they work and live. Since the program began in 2014, employees have volunteered more than 10,000 hours, planted 37,386 trees, shrubs and perennials, removed 22,112 square metres of invasive species and built 139 habitat structures.
- Eliminating the sale of single-use plastic water bottles and making the transition from plastic utensils to reusable and compostable cutlery at its headquarters and other certified sites.
- Electronics recycling programs that encourage employees to responsibly recycle their no-longer-needed electronics. In the past 10 years, Canon Canada employees have diverted more than 7,200 kilograms of consumer electronics, clothing and textiles from landfills.
- Participation in multiple stewardship and extended producer responsibility programs across the country for electronics, batteries and packaging. Canon Canada is a member of not-for-profit Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs) such as Circular Materials, Éco Enterprises Québec, Electronics Products Stewardship Canada and Call2Recycle
