Canon Canada was recognized with the following accolades at the 2023 PrintAction Canadian Printing Awards Gala.
Most Environmentally Progressive Technology Company
Winner – Canon Canada Inc.
Canon Canada invests in several major green initiatives and programs throughout the year. This is inspired by Canon’s global Environmental Charter and its corporate philosophy Kyosei: all people, regardless of race, religion or culture, harmoniously living and working together into the future, with respect for the environment as an important part of that harmony.
Canon Canada engages employees to ensure its values are being implemented effectively, and in new ways. One example is the Canon Canada Green Team, which meets regularly to design, implement and assess green programs.
Since 2014, the Canon Canada Branch Out program has successfully brought employees together to spend part of their day creating green spaces and sustainable environments around the communities where they live and work. This year’s events took place in 10 cities. Some of the activities included tree planting, invasive species removal, raingarden planting, wildflower planting, shoreline cleanup and in-stream data collection.
Canon Canada continues to hold partnerships with the National Wildlife Centre, Earth Rangers and Credit Valley Conservation to support biodiversity and wildlife conservation and increase employees’ environmental awareness. Additionally, Canon Canada recently provided financial support to Éco-Nature | Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îlesto to help support the largest protected wildlife area in the metropolitan region.
Most Progressive Printing Process, Software or IT
Winner – PRISMAguide XL
PRISMAguide XL is the successor of the Arizona Xpert self-learning software. Arizona Xpert represented a unique step in the evolution of the Arizona series by taking productivity beyond just the printer. The integration of a proprietary software workflow tool working between the ONYX Thrive RIP and the Arizona printer made the preparation of complex files quick and easy by capturing the expertise of a shop’s most skilled operator and saving their file preparation steps into a “recipe” that could later be applied to other jobs.
This third generation of software gets a rebrand and joins the PRISMA XL Suite, adding support for the Colorado series printers and introducing a more modular product structure. PRISMAguide XL helps the user stay in control by combining multiple production steps into a unified visualized print production process. This saves time, eliminates the need for extensive operator training and reduces costly errors. Grow your business with the self-learning capability of PRISMAguide XL, as you can design – and then repeat – complex, multi-layered print applications like backlit, day/night, FLXfinish+ and more.
Most Progressive Printing Process, Wide-format Inkjet
Winner – Colorado M-series
The Colorado M-series is the new line of 64” roll-to-roll UVgel printers, offering even more features to delight our customers. Enjoy an extended media range including structured, transparent, coloured or reflective media. The unique UVgel technology now includes white ink, making a once-cumbersome application specialty available for all users, without the hassle. Another powerful feature is its modular design, which allows customers to configure their ideal machine: start from the base model and add options and upgrades either from the start or later on in the field. Upgrade options include higher speeds, hardware options like the magnetic media kit and additional print modes. Even adding the white ink can simply be done with a short service visit. The series includes the groundbreaking FLXfinish+ technology, which provides the capability to output your print with a glossy or matte finish or even a combination of the two effects in one print,
Honourable Mention – Arizona 1300 FLOW
The new Arizona 1300 FLOW series printers represent a refresh of the popular mid-volume Arizona 1300 series, and now includes the award-winning Arizona FLOW technology, an innovative zone-free vacuum system that makes media handling easy. The FLOW technology means it’s much quicker to change media and board sizes, making these printers the ideal solution for printing many short-run jobs spread throughout the day. Since there are no vacuum zones, far less masking and taping is required, reducing effort, time and cost.
This enables large format graphics printers and other print service providers (PSPs) to deliver commercial-quality prints with higher levels of productivity, as well as a wide range of applications for the retail, interior decor, packaging and industrial market segments. They can now offer applications across an extensive array of rigid and flexible media – as well as irregular-shaped substrates – more easily and more productively. The outstanding productivity, print quality and application versatility, as well as smart innovations in additional print modes, ease of use, workflow optimization and UV-LED curing technology, will open up new opportunities for companies looking to stay ahead of the competition.
Most Progressive Printing Process, Production Inkjet
Honourable Mention – iX Series
Built on the success of the varioPRINT i-series platform introduced in 2015, this advanced sheetfed inkjet press utilizes iQuariusiX technologies. These technologies combine the image quality of offset with the productivity and cost efficiency of production inkjet to support customers with production volumes of one to 10 million letter images per month. Offering an average 94 percent uptime and virtually eliminating the need for daily calibration and maintenance, the varioPRINT iX-series streamlines productivity, and helps to improve overall running costs, differentiating itself from other market technologies. Through this press, customers can print up to 4,500 12-inch-by-18-inch sheets per hour (or up to 312 letter images per minute) on a wide range of media, including offset coated paper ranging from 90 to 350gsm with native 1200 dpi processing. This feature allows customers to produce high volumes of commercial print applications, from marketing collateral and premium direct mail, to catalogues, magazines and books.
Self-Promotion, Printing Industry Supplier
Honourable Mention – Arizona Interior Decor Box
This sample box is part of a series of Experience Boxes that are produced and distributed by our partners in Venlo, Canon Production Printing. This particular new box showcases Arizona applications in the interior decor market. It includes a variety of rigid media examples and shows how the Arizona true flatbed series, along with software components PRISMAguide and PRISMAelevate XL, can accomplish different effects and functions. Textured effects for printing a faux tile or wood surface can serve as a cheaper alternative in the decor market to their ‘real’ counterparts. Another elevated printing effect can serve a specific function like braille signage. The collection of samples also features different media like ceramic, aluminum DIBOND, plywood, glassm coating and varnish techniques, all accompanied by an Interior Decor Guide that highlights some trends and best practices in that market. This tool is offered to marketing, sales reps and dealers for promotion of the versatility of the Arizona Series.
