A total of 14 Canon 4K lenses used to produce live coverage of Canada’s premier cricket event for millions of cricket fans around the globe
BRAMPTON, ON., AUG.10, 2023 – MEDIAPRO Canada joined forces with Canon Canada Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, to produce best-in-class world-feed coverage of the 2023 GT20 Canada cricket tournament, which took place at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ont., July 20 to Aug. 6.
Canon Canada supplied MEDIAPRO Canada with a total of 14 4K lenses consisting of eleven 90x, two 25x and one wide angle to capture every second of the GT20, Canada’s premier cricket tournament. A highly skilled crew of camera operators from around the world used Canon 4K UHD DIGISUPER 90 (UJ90x9B) broadcast lenses, which feature 90x zoom ratio and combine a respectably wide 9mm setting with an impressive extreme telephoto setting of 810mm focal length.
The Canon UHD DIGISUPER series lenses in 2/3” image format was developed with the most advanced technologies to help achieve the highest optical performance possible, satisfying 4K optical requirements for field production.
“This is the first time we’ve used this many Canon 4K lenses on a single production, and the final product reflects the high calibre expected from our clients,” says Chris Priess, VP Sales, MEDIAPRO Canada.
“Like the other MEDIAPRO offices around the world, MEDIAPRO Canada relies on the high performance of Canon UHD lenses as well as the technical support from our local state-of-the-art factory service facility to cover important major events like this one,” says Carlo Beltrano, Account Executive, Canon Canada “Congratulations on another successful GT20 production."
MEDIAPRO Canada produced full end-to-end production of the 25-match, 18-day event with a significant complement of cameras and an international crew of broadcast professionals working across the company’s 53’ mobile unit Alto, in partnership with MEDIAPRO Middle East, which provided consultancy services on the global media distribution of the event.
Already the second most-watched sport in the world after soccer, cricket has been billed as “the next big thing” in North American sports, and the appeal of the GT20, with its lineup of international cricket stars and shortened T20 format, was made clear when over 130 million people worldwide watched the 2019 edition of the tournament.
