This year, employees focused their efforts on protecting local watersheds.
Throughout the spring, summer and fall, Canon Canada’s employees and senior management demonstrated their commitment to environmental sustainability by participating in the company’s annual Branch Out program.
Now in its sixth year, Canon Canada’s Branch Out volunteer program provides a meaningful way for employees to protect and preserve the environment in the communities where they work and live. The program supports the Canon Americas Environmental Charter and actively demonstrates Canon’s corporate philosophy of Kyosei – all people, regardless of race, religion or culture, harmoniously living and working together into the future.
“I’m very proud that we are able to come together as an organization to give back to our communities,” says Nobu Kitajima, President & CEO of Canon Canada. “It’s wonderful to see so many of our employees volunteering and working together to support the environment.”
This year’s efforts focused on protecting local watersheds. Over 400 employees across the country participated in the activities, which included water sampling, shoreline habitat rehabilitation and cleanup, tree and shrub planting, invasive species removal, benthic invertebrate and fish monitoring, and building turtle nesting boxes. One special activity this year had employees helping a local elementary school build a rain garden on the school’s property. Overall, Canon Canada employees donated 1,686 hours at 23 volunteer events across 12 cities.
