High School Students Trade Classroom for Corporate

Toronto Catholic School Board students gain real-world marketing and photography experience at Canon Canada headquarters.

One hundred twenty-two high school students from six schools within the Toronto Catholic School Board (TCSB) participated in an engaging Sector Partner Experience (SPE) at Canon Canada headquarters on Nov. 25 and Dec. 9. The initiative provided students with a unique, hands-on opportunity to apply creative and marketing skills in a professional corporate environment.

The day began with a comprehensive photography lesson, teaching students the fundamentals of image capture relevant to commercial applications. Following the instruction, the students were divided into groups of three, each team adopting the identity of a professional "marketing agency."

Each agency received a detailed marketing brief and product, challenging them to develop a compelling visual campaign. Their primary task was to create a single impactful image and a corresponding tagline. The experience culminated in each team presenting their agency's creative strategy and execution to the Canon Marketing Team, receiving direct feedback on their work.

“Our students and SHSM Lead teachers had such positive things to say about the SPE! ” says Sandra Mustacato, OCT Toronto Catholic School Board. “The Canon team was so professional, organized and engaging! We are excited to continue this partnership.”

The event successfully bridged classroom learning with real-world industry demands, highlighting Canon Canada's dedication to educational outreach and talent development within the community.
