Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Graphic Communications Management recently held its annual GCM Awards night.
Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Graphic Communications Management held its annual GCM Awards night in Toronto on Nov. 17. The School of Graphic Communications is Canada’s only degree-granting program for the printing industries. Members of the Canon Canada team attended to present Canon sponsored awards to two high-achieving students.
“Scholarships go directly toward supporting students during their studies,” says Natalia Lumby, an associate professor and the Chair in Graphic Communications Management at The Creative School. “With the financial support from Canon, recipients can spend more time focused on their discipline. Moreover, students feel the support of their broader professional community through long-standing partnerships like this one. More often than not, on awards night you are shaking the hand of a past grad. That in and of itself is so rewarding. I’m thrilled to see that Canon continues to benefit from hiring GCM grads, and continues to give back to that community.”
Michelle Lin was this year’s recipient of the Canon Scholarship for Graphic Communications Project Management, awarded to the student who attained the highest grade in Project Management for Graphic Communications.
Melissa Figliola won the Canon PRISMAsync Colour Management Scholarship, awarded to the student who attained the highest grade in Colour Management for Graphic Communication. Each student received $1,000.
“We are proud to support students pursuing careers in the printing industry,” says Nobuhiko Kitajima, President and CEO of Canon Canada. “Toronto Metropolitan University does an outstanding job of preparing the next generation of print professionals, something we know firsthand as many of its graduates are now Canon Canada employees. Congratulations to Michelle and Melissa on their awards. We wish them continued success in their studies and promising careers in our industry.”
