As Vancouver welcomed some of the world’s best figure skaters earlier this month for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, behind the scenes Canon Canada ensured the photographers covering the athletes would get high-quality capture of every single spin, swizzle and twizzle.
Canon Inc. was the official sponsor of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, the last event of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating circuit. The series hosts six stops throughout the fall, with the top six skaters in each of the four disciplines (men’s singles, ladies’ singles, pairs and ice dance) qualifying for the final.
This was the third high-performance sporting event that Canon Canada participated in this year, after the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal in June and the Crankworx World Tour in Whistler in August.
“Providing Canon professional photographers with the quality support they need to ensure the successful coverage of a world-class event is exactly what professionals expect from Canon,” says Henry Teixeira, Senior Manager of Canon Canada’s Service and Support Group. “World-class support adds value to the Canon brand and is key to differentiating Canon from the others.”
At the ISU Grand Prix Final, Canon’s booth was inside the event Media Centre, making it quick and convenient for photographers to receive on-site support in between editing and uploading their images. Factory-service technicians provided complimentary Clean and Check service on Canon DSLR cameras and Canon EF lenses. Pro markets reps answered technical questions and facilitated loan requests.
More than half of the event’s accredited photographers visited Canon’s booth during the four-day event.
The Canon Photo Gallery showcases just some of the stills captured by Y. Wada, the event’s official photographer, on the EOS-1D X Mark II.
“Helping professional photographers succeed is a rewarding part of our responsibility,” says Teixeira. “It’s extremely exciting to witness Canon professionals unlock their creativity while using Canon gear to capture unforgettable moments during world-class events such as the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final.”
