Canon believes in sustainable innovation, and that our sustainability efforts shouldn’t end when a product leaves our hands. We design products with their entire life cycle in mind: ideation, development, manufacturing, transporting, day-to-day use and end-of-life. Guided by our corporate philosophy, Kyosei, we seek ways to reduce our eco-footprint, conserve energy and natural resources, and eliminate the use of hazardous substances.
At each stage of a product’s life cycle—produce, use and recycle—Canon assesses the amount of carbon dioxide emitted and strives to reduce it. Canon’s EMS, put in place to help protect and preserve valuable environmental resources, is certified to the ISO 14001 standard.
To ensure proper end-of-life product management, Canon offers a nationwide take-back service for its business products once their full service life is complete. Our innovative green technologies also include bio-based plastic, a plant-derived compound that replaces certain petroleum-based plastic parts.
Every Canon product and system comes equipped with paper-, toner- and energy-saving features that reduce our eco-footprint and conserve natural resources. We’ve been an ENERGY STAR® partner for over 20 years and been recognized numerous times for our environmentally conscious product designs.
When a Canon device reaches your workplace, you’ll value the features that help save energy, paper and toner. Canon has developed innovative technologies that make its business products highly energy efficient while delivering great performance.
Canon strives to minimize its eco-footprint in all areas of operations. Canon products are now smaller and lighter, and they’re made from reused and recycled materials whenever possible. Canon has also adopted plastic-free packaging materials*. The company is replacing polystyrene foam with molded fibre pulp packaging. It’s working toward further reducing single-use plastics by extending the use of pulped mold for packaging both its new and existing inkjet printer models.
Canon technology is engineered into lighter, compact designs, which helps improve transportation efficiency. As a result, carbon emissions per transporter vehicle can be reduced by up to 50%.
In order to reduce dependence on petroleum-based materials, Canon uses 100% recycled plastics and bio-based plastics on certain exterior parts.
