CanoScan FB 630Ui Scanner Features Ease-of-Use Scanning

Targeted to Mac users, Canon’s hallmark has always been to deliver sophisticated technology that is easy to understand and use, and the CanoScan FB 630Ui scanner is a prime example of this commitment. The CanoScan FB 630Ui offers simple universal serial bus (USB) connection to the Mac and is one of the first colour flatbed scanners in its class to be fully powered by the USB connection. The scanner delivers crisp 600x1200 dots per inch (dpi) optical resolution and offers interpolated resolutions of up to 9600 dpi. With its 36-bit colour capability, the CanoScan FB 630Ui scanner can capture over 68 billion colours in a single pass. Ease of use is enhanced by using the one-touch button on the front of the scanner. This button automatically launches the CanoScan Toolbox that then allows users to perform a series of actions at the click of an icon. Users can launch a specific application or can choose from preprogrammed functions such as sending a scanned image directly to a printer, to e-mail or to a fax modem.

The ultra-compact CanoScan FB 630Ui scanner offers the best value for the Mac user. At just over 1.36 kg and only 38 mm in height, roughly the size of a dictionary, the CanoScan FB 630Ui scanner models push the imaging technology envelope by offering Canon’s proprietary high-precision optics with superior image processing, all in a sleek package suitably designed to match the Mac-user’s creative work space. The CanoScan FB 630Ui scanner will be available at retail in March 2000 and will ship at an estimated CDN street price of $219*.

Canon’s Contact Image Sensor (CIS) and LIDE Technologies

The CanoScan FB 630Ui features Canon’s exclusive LIDE (LED InDirect Exposure) technology. LIDE allows Canon’s scanners to gain higher colour fidelity and less distortion in image processing and achieve image quality that rivals many CCD scanners currently available. LIDE also allows Canon’s scanners to achieve greater reliability and smaller footprints because there are fewer moving mechanical parts. LIDE uses four main components: the LEDs, the LightGuide, the rod lens array and the sensor chips. The LightGuide is mounted beside the lenses and is an optical technology that creates a uniformly bright light across the scan line by reflecting and/or diffusing the light beam. The LightGuide allows for a light source of extremely compact design while producing the highest level of uniform illumination. Many rod lenses with a diameter of less than one millimeter are placed along the scanning line creating a high resolution image with absolutely no distortion. The quality of the image is ensured by the use of the new linear image sensor at the end of the rod lenses. LIDE gives the new CanoScan scanners higher sensitivity than conventional scanners and is being regarded by industry experts as the next-generation of image sensor technology.
