CANON ANNOUNCES FREE FIRMWARE UGRADES FOR COMPANY’S FIRST MOPRIA™-CERTIFIED PRODUCTS
MISSISSAUGA, ON., May 15, 2014 – Canon Canada Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, announces that it will begin offering free firmware upgrades* for four imageCLASS laser all-in-one printers and one PIXMA inkjet all-in-one printer that have received Mopria™ certification, allowing for simple and convenient printing from select mobile devices.
The Mopria™-certified Canon all-in-one lineup includes the imageCLASS MF6160dw, MF6180dw, MF8280Cw and MF8580Cdw laser multifunction printers for home offices and small- to medium-sized businesses and one PIXMA all-in-one inkjet printer.
The upgrades allow for the automatic detection of the Canon devices over a Wi-Fi connection from Mopria™-certified smartphones, tablets and other compatible mobile devices. Users can print documents from their select mobile devices by simply selecting the detected printer indicated on the screen.
Mobile printing to date has required the installation of applications based on the printer manufacturer or model. With the unified Mopria™ standard, users will be able to print from the same simple print procedure to Mopria™-certified Canon devices, along with other certified devices. Additionally, as Mopria™-certified printers increase in number, users will be able to easily use wireless printing from mobile devices whenever and wherever needed—at home, in the workplace or on the go.
Canon, as a founding member of the Mopria Alliance, was among the first companies to begin developing Mopria™-certified products. Canon will continue its efforts to make printing as convenient as possible for users while enhancing its lineup of Mopria™-certified products.
